How I Can Help
Therapy doesn't have to fit neatly into one category
People rarely come to therapy with just one thing going on. Anxiety may be connected to a relationship. A difficult transition may bring up experiences from the past. Depression may leave you wondering whether something needs to change—or whether you've lost touch with what you want in the first place.
I work with adolescents and adults across a wide range of concerns and life experiences. We can begin with whatever is bringing you to therapy now and, over time, explore where the work needs to go.
Anxiety, Depression & Emotional Well-Being
Relationships & Personal Growth
Relationships have a way of bringing our patterns to the surface. You may find yourself having the same argument repeatedly, struggling to communicate what you need, worrying about rejection, having difficulty setting boundaries, or wondering why certain relationship patterns keep repeating. Therapy can provide a place to understand both what's happening between you and other people and what's happening within you. And you don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes the goal is simply to know yourself better, strengthen your relationships, or make more intentional choices about the life you want.
Sometimes anxiety or depression has an obvious cause. Other times, you may look at your life and wonder why you don't feel better than you do. Therapy can help with the immediate symptoms—managing anxious thoughts, changing patterns that aren't helping, developing healthier coping strategies—but it can also give us an opportunity to understand what's underneath them. Rather than simply asking, “How do we make this feeling go away?”, we can also become curious about “Why is this feeling here?”
Adolescents & Young Adults
Growing up has never been particularly simple. Adolescents and young adults may be navigating anxiety, depression, identity, friendships, relationships, family expectations, school, independence, sexuality, or uncertainty about what's next. I provide a supportive space where younger clients can talk openly and begin making sense of what they're experiencing without feeling that they're being judged or lectured. For adolescents in particular, having an adult outside the family who will listen and take their experience seriously can make an important difference.
Trauma & EMDR
Difficult or traumatic experiences don't always stay neatly in the past. They can affect how you feel about yourself, how you respond to certain situations, how safe you feel in relationships, and how your mind and body react long after an experience is over. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach designed to help people process distressing or traumatic experiences that continue to affect them. EMDR can be an important part of therapy for some clients, but it isn't something I automatically use simply because someone has experienced trauma.
Life Transitions, Grief & Aging
Change can be difficult even when it's a change you chose. Loss, retirement, changes in health, shifts in relationships or family roles, career changes, aging, and questions about identity or purpose can leave you trying to understand a life that suddenly feels different. Therapy can provide room to grieve what's been lost while also exploring what comes next.
LGBTQ+ Life & Relationships
I provide LGBTQ+ affirming therapy where identity can be central to our work when it needs to be—and simply one part of who you are when it doesn't. Topics may include identity, coming out, relationships, intimacy, family, sexuality, aging, discrimination, self-acceptance, or any of the ordinary complications of being human. Sometimes you simply want to talk about your relationship, your job, your family, or your anxiety without wondering whether your therapist will understand the context of your life.
We start with you
These categories can help describe some of the reasons people seek therapy, but they aren't boxes you need to fit into. You may see yourself in several of them—or none of them exactly. That's okay. We'll start with what's happening in your life, what you'd like to be different, and what you're ready to explore.
